WA Tourism Followup Sessions

Dear Tourism Industry Colleague,

As you know the Washington Tourism Office has retained an industry consulting team to assist in the development of a new six year strategic marketing plan for our state.  Many of you participated in one of several input sessions held across the state in December, 2007.

We are now scheduling a series of follow-up sessions that will allow the consulting team to elicit additional feedback from our stakeholders and partners around the state.  These sessions, scheduled for the week of May 5, 2008, will allow the consulting team to present an overview of their findings relative to the “State of the Industry” as well as outline the strategic priorities that form the backdrop for the six year plan.  We hope you will plan to attend one of the scheduled sessions and be prepared to offer your comments and input on the strategy.  Your input in this process is very valuable and we want to be sure the initial data has been interpreted correctly, and that we are truly accounting for the cumulative insight of our industry partners throughout the state.

Dates and locations are listed below.  In order to plan effectively, please RSVP for the meeting you plan to attend.  Thank you.

Regards,

Marsha Massey

Open Mic at Fort Columbia

Hi all, just wanted to invite you to the next open mic at Fort Columbia State Park‘s historic riverfront theater. The evening program will start at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 26th.

All locals and visitors are welcome to present some poetry, music, or prose but you can just come and listen too.

Last time we had an open mic in February we had a real display of a variety of talent. I was really impressed. John Kulm will be hosting this Saturday, he’s a hoot. There is no admission for attending this program just bring yourself, a couple of friends and an appetite for entertainment!

North Head Anniversary in May

Voluntourism

The Peninsula’s next big signature “tourism” emphasis is “Voluntourism”, a term I read about in USA Today spearheaded by the Ritz Carlton. Tourists come to the resorts to take on a volunteer project.  So we can give our guests garbage bags (eco-friendly ones with a cute logo printed on it) and send them to the beach to have a “Beach Clean-up” everyday.  First, we must educate them about the source of the junk on our beach using the materials available at the VB.  We can offer an incentive on our websites of a little discount or prize of some type if they choose to participate ie. small credit on food or accommodations, bottle of vino.  Or maybe that’s not necessary!  What do you all think?

Ferry System Ads

You will recall that, back in 2006, we participated in a free ad opportunity provided by Washington State Tourism to create a video piece for use on the state ferry system. There was some delay at that end in getting the videos on the boats but, in the meantime, the company did get them onto screens in the Boeing Tour Center, Argosy Cruise Boats at the Seattle waterfront, the Museum of Flight and Kenmore Air seaplanes.

Attached are locations on ferries of where the ads are running today, beginning with last May. These are on two superferries, 6 screens each, between Seattle and Bainbridge, the busiest runs. There are also videos which include us running on 2 screens at the Coleman Dock waiting area at the Seattle waterfront terminal, 1 screen at the Anacortes ferry terminal to the San Juans and Vancouver Island.

Please note that the photos do not happen to have been taken when our material was showing. You will recall that 20 DMOs submitted material for 20-second ads to run in a continuous loop. These pictures give you some idea of the prominence of the screens and their locations.
